About THIS SHOW

These works have been made by Penticton artist Robyn Lake in her studio in the past 4 months.  There's a magical 12 foot (3.6m) long triptych featuring the view from Penticton's east bench wineries towards sunbeams streaming through Summerland's Garnet Valley.  What kinds of works are in the show?  Have a look! The theme?  Primarily the beautiful southern part of the Okanagan Valley. From huge all the way to her tiniest 8x8" (20cm) landscapes and florals.  Robyn has been outstanding in her commitment to creating this new landscape collection, especially in light of the fact that she's been back to Australia twice very recently to be with her parents.  Thank you Robyn!

Robyn states: When I paint, I am totally focused on the joy that this valley offers. Putting paint on the canvas is a meditative act, and my colour choices are intuitive, a reflection of how I look at the brighter side of life.
I also want the people who view my paintings to feel calm, a sense of joy and peace in a world where we are overwhelmed by what is going on around us.  It's been a challenging 6 months for me with close friends and family illness and loss, and this beautiful country valley that we are so lucky to call home gives me the tranquility and quiet repose that I need to get through a tough day. We can all have challenging days and need a tranquil place to go unwind.  Therefore, the title of this show is A Tranquil Place. The place where we can find deep peace and tranquility.  In person, or by wandering through a painting...

About the Artist

Robyn Lake had her first solo exhibition of watercolours in Penticton 1996. Since then she has moved to painting with oils and acrylics and has continued to develop her representational style, varying her subjects from intimate close up views of flowers and fruit, to panoramic views of the landscape.

“I was born in the tropics, where all the colours in the landscape are so intense and I wonder if this hasn’t always remained with me. More than that though, when I observe the landscape, I feel a deep sense of gratitude and joy, and the brilliant colours I use are an expression of this. I want people to feel a sense of this when they look at my work. "  -- Robyn

Robyn’s vibrant oil and acrylic paintings have been in numerous solo and group exhibitions and are in collections around the globe.  Ask the Lloyd Gallery to view Robyn's impressive CV of 25+ solo exhibitions and more than 80 group exhibitions. Follow this link to see more of Robyn's originals, those in her regular collection (not part of this show).
