About The Artist
Craig grew up in Vancouver and always had a great interest in art. He studied drawing and painting throughout his educational years, as well as some post-secondary studies and, while his passion for art was ever-present, he ended up taking a different path that led him into a career in Sales and Marketing.
Although he worked in the corporate world for many years, he always kept a hand in something related to his artistic interests; whether it was carving with wood or stone, or painting and drawing. He studied classes whenever possible and in 2007 he took a metal sculpture workshop through Emily Carr University and instantly became hooked. While he’d always been interested in sculpture, metal sculpture became a passion, and led to commissioned work.
In 2012 he made the decision to leave the corporate world behind and pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a full-time artist. A little while later he was able to open up a small studio workshop situated on a beautiful 17-acre working orchard in Summerland BC, which was perfect because, working with metal can be very noisy. In 2018, Craig transitioned his studio to the Sunshine Coast, back to his roots of being near the ocean and rainforest ... and found himself surrounded by a vibrant artisan community.
His latest endeavors are an etched metal medium, made with aircraft grade aluminum and are meant mostly to be reflections of the inspiration he gathers from the closeness he feels to the things he observes in the nature that now surrounds him. “My intention is not to compete with the beauty of nature by trying to duplicate it, but rather, try to emulate it, as best I can, in a medium that is somewhat contrary to it’s very essence”.
Craig, his wife Jeanie, along with their dog Huckleberry and cat Rusty, currently split their time between the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver.
