Born in Vancouver,
Debbie has lived in Kamloops since 1990. She is a self-taught
artist and a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. Her
paintings have been juried into numerous shows and she has won several
awards. Her passion for painting has opened doors to teach
classes and workshops both privately and for larger groups.
The enticing contract caused by sun and shadow is what draws Debbie
to paint her subject matter. In the pure light of the sun, she
paints glowing hues, casting shadows dancing with colour. Her
paintings capture the glory of sunlight, but only by painstaking attention
to shadow.
While her subject matter
varies, she is especially drawn to capture the innocence of children,
and as well she fondly paints windows and doorways accented with flora.
Debbie specializes in commissioned portraits, often combining several
references to compose that special personal painting. Looking to
impact the viewer, Debbie pays special attention to composition and the
overall drama in her paintings.
