Images of The (Old) Lloyd Gallery- A little bit of HISTORY
| A little bit of history...
Unexpectedly on June 27th, 2007 the gallery and most of the other businesses in the building suffered complete losses due to a fire that seemed to have been caused by a gas explosion. It was a trying time dealing with the losses and weeding through the few salvageable pieces of charred artwork. Although the losses were enormous for everyone at the gallery, Alphons serendipitously saw an opportunity to begin anew at 18 Front Street, closer to the waterfront and to the public Art Gallery of the South Okanagan) Many of the previous artists provided the gallery for its grand re-opening in November 2007 with an excellent selection of new work. Here are some images of the former gallery to remember it by; click on the images to enlarge. We miss the extra space the framing workshop had, but we must say we love our new gallery location and the fact that it now exists in the very same building that used to be the Empress (movie) Theatre in the early 1900's (also named the Empire Theatre for a few years). We now welcome you to view what colourful Front Street has to offer: Welcome to the new Lloyd Gallery! |
